The Pollinator Academy

Together with Naturalis, we built the Pollinator Academy. The knowledge platform provides information on pollinators in Europe and integrated taxonomic tools. Among other things, it provides access to identification keys, genus fact sheets and relevant scientific publications. Interested parties can follow modules on the taxonomy of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Content Management System

All pages on the Pollinator Academy website can be managed through the underlying content management system (CMS). From different textual views to the integration of external sources such as 3D models, using various building blocks, all pages can be flexibly set up. The CMS provides a clear view in which the blocks are adjustable and the result is displayed immediately. The building blocks were designed and developed in multiple iterations where they fit the Pollinator Academy's needs in the right way, but still remain dynamic so that the blocks can be widely used. Thus, the pages can be arranged dynamically and there is an appropriate option for every desired view.

Knowledge center

Through the knowledge center, extensive filters (such as the specify-tags) allow a targeted search for identification keys, genus fact sheets and relevant scientific publications, among other things. The results can be easily imported into the CMS thanks to a link with an external reference manager. The fact sheets on bees and hoverflies can be easily found through the alphabetical overview pages of the different genera. In addition, it is possible to highlight certain results or users can make suggestions if they are missing a resource they would like to see again.

Multilingual

The website is available in 25 European languages through a translation link with DeepL.

There is an tremendous amount of taxonomic information on the Internet, but it is not easy to find. With the Pollinator Academy we have created a European learning platform where the different and most important sources come together. Zooma helped us make this a very beautiful website as well. With this multilingual platform, we can easily add new tools and resources, both helping and inspiring the next generation of taxonomists.
